My Story
From Service to Investigations
Every investigation I take on today is shaped by a path that started long ago and I use my life and career experience for every case and every client.
my 4 chapters
1 ~
early life
I was born and raised in a small town in Northwest Ohio, enlisting in the US Air Force right after high school. I graduated the USAF Security Police academy and spent years at numerous bases in the US and overseas performing law enforcement and security duties. For four years I was stationed in Europe and during this time, I enrolled in the University of Maryland's European Division and pursued a Bachelors' Degree in Criminal Justice.
After being honorably discharged in 1997, I initially sought out a career in law enforcement and security, interviewing with numerous State and Federal agencies such as: US Marshal Service, Bureau of Tobacco, Alcohol and Firearms, Air Marshal Service, State Highway Patrol and was offered numerous positions in the private sector conducting undercover investigations for Fortune 500 companies. That's not the path I chose…

becoming a PI
I was recruited by a national criminal defense firm based in Santa Monica, California as a Criminal Defense, Case Manager where they were looking to hire prior military and law enforcement. I would spend the next several years traveling all over the United States meeting with clients with every type of criminal case in cities like Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Seattle. In 2002, I became the youngest "Director of Client Services" in the history of the firm. My primary responsibility was to recruit, train and develop top notch criminal attorneys and case managers throughout the Midwest. This firm would eventually merge with The Cochran Firm, founded by famed OJ Simpson Attorney, Johnnie Cochran.
In 2004, I joined a Midwest criminal defense firm in Illinois made up of former prosecutors and prior law enforcement. The next few years, I worked on countless state and federal cases involving drugs, robbery, homicide, sexual assault, and battery just to name a few. One of the cases I worked was a featured documentary on HBO and another case was televised on Dateline NBC "To Catch a Predator" series.
In 2008, I connected with an old colleague of mine and joined a three state investigative agency based in Indiana. I would eventually become the lead investigator where I maintained licenses and credentials in multiple states and still do today. Over the next several years, I would gain vast experience in witness interviews, testifying in court, cell phone/computer forensics, surveillance, corporate investigations and criminal defense cases. During this time I was also contracted to conduct corporate investigations for Pinkerton Detective Agency and Fortune 500 companies like Johnson & Johnson.

law firm life
In 2013, I relocated my family to Illinois and joined a premiere criminal defense firm in Central Illinois, where I would spend the next eleven years working on strictly criminal cases ranging from DUI’s to homicide investigations, drug cases and sexual assaults, state and federal including Title IX cases, just to name a few. I was promoted to Law Firm Administrator and lead investigator in 2015 and assembled a team of some of the top investigators and attorneys in the state and worked on many high profile cases throughout the state.

coming home
In the summer of 2024, I made the decision to return home to be closer to family and settled in Central Ohio. I wanted to create an unapparelled Investigative & Consulting Group with the experience I gathered over 25 years. During my career, I have been fortunate to manage, consult or investigate thousands of cases and now using that experience and network of professionals to create Wright Investigations & Consulting Group.
